At Calvary Christian Academy, we strive to prepare students for a lifetime of service to the glory of God! Realizing the battle each student must engage in their Christian walk, we have chosen to use the armor of God as our school crest as found in Ephesians 6:13-18:
13- Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14- Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness
15- and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16- above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
17- And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
18- praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
The crest shield represents our Faith as found in verse 16, which protects us from the “fiery darts of the wicked one.” The shield is divided into four quadrants which display the armor with which we must cloth ourselves with for everyday protection.
The Belt of Truth
The belt of truth found in verse 14a represents our security in Christ, keeping us together with Him and making all of the other armor effective. Truth is the sincerity of our heart and hence what we should strive to keep in our hearts, that it may come out of our mouths.
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Verse 14b tells us that we are to put on righteousness because righteousness allows us to stand boldly before God, men, and the wicked one. To be righteous means we must have right standing with God, at which we must work at daily.
The Helmet of Salvation
The helmet of salvation covers our mind, intellect, and reasoning. This covering gives us the confidence and understanding we have in the our Lord Jesus Christ and the certainty of the salvation He offers us.
Shoes made with the preparation of the gospel of peace or the good news is the armor from verse 16. This piece of armor aids our movement by equipping us with the good news and it provides defense over the hard ground we will walk on while delivering the message of the good news.
The Sword of the Spirit
The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God filled with the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God is our ultimate offensive weapon to the wicked one’s subtle and destructive attacks. In order to use this weapon, we must know God’s Word, have a hunger to learn it, and act on it.
Mascot – Lion of Judah
The Lion of Judah represents Jesus Christ as the triumphant king of all creation as found in Revelation 5:5. The lion is the king of the beasts, a terror when he roars and his prey are inescapable. According to Genesis 49:9, not only does the lion of Judah enjoy great victories but he does so peaceably.
Motto- "To God be the Glory"
Our school motto was chosen based on our school verse, 1 Corinthians 10:31.
Verse – 1 Corinthians 10:31
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
Anthem – To God be the Glory by Fanny Crosby
1. To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.
2. Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
3. Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.
